First sitting of the Working Group conducting analysis on appropriateness of criminalising illicit enrichment is held

On 25 February, the first sitting of the Working Group — established by the Order of the Minister of Justice of the Republic of Armenia of 22 January 2016 with the aim of conducting analysis on appropriateness of criminalising illicit enrichment — was held at the Ministry of Justice of the Republic of Armenia.

Representatives of the "Armenian Young Lawyers Association", "Freedom of Information Centre of Armenia", "Protection of Rights without Borders" non-governmental organisations, as well as of the Ministry of Justice are included in the Working Group. Deputy Minister of Justice Suren Krmoyan welcomed the participants of the workshop and urged the Working Group — established based on the Republic of Armenia Anti-corruption Strategy and the State-Civil Society Working Platform for conducting analysis on appropriateness of criminalising illicit enrichment — to study the entire legal framework of advanced countries in order to suggest the Working Group developing the new Criminal Code the best possible solutions conducting the analysis.

During the meeting the work was distributed under the direction of Deputy Chief of Staff of the Ministry of Justice of the Republic of Armenia, Head of the Working Group Karen Hakobyan with the aim of studying the legislation applied in different countries and summarising the studies conducted; upon consent of the members of the Working Group a one-month period has been fixed.
