Drafts laws prepared within the scope of the fight against corruption considered during a session of Public Council

On 9 September, under the chairmanship of Acting Minister of Justice of the Republic of Armenia Arpine Hovhannisyan, the Public Council adjunct to the Ministry of Justice of the Republic of Armenia held a session to consider the drafts laws prepared within the scope of the fight against corruption.

Arpine Hovhannisyan greeted the gathered and highlighted the importance of the issues included in the agenda of the session of the newly established Public Council.

According to her, the sole purpose of the session is to consider the legislative initiatives also with civil society representatives and receive recommendations before submitting the legislative initiatives to the Government and to the National Assembly. Arpine Hovhannisyan wished the members of the Public Council to have an open and effective session.

During the session, representatives of the Ministry of Justice submitted to the members of the Council the analyses on and recommendations for the new anti-corruption institutional system, the two main — universal and preventive models for combating corruption, the package of legislation on criminalisation of illicit enrichment, as well as the concept paper on the introduction of an institution for the disclosure of true owners in the system of public procurement.

The members of the Public Council adjunct to the Minister of Justice welcomed the legislative initiatives of the Ministry aimed at combating corruption, expressed their concerns and submitted their proposals regarding the issues that were presented.

At the end of the discussion, Deputy Minister Suren Krmoyan urged the representatives of the non-governmental organisations to submit in writing to the Ministry of Justice recommendations and objections with their justifications, which will be summed up, incorporated in the drafts, after which they will be submitted to the Government of the Republic of Armenia.
