06/06/2018

Today, Minister of Justice of the Republic of Armenia Artak Zeynalyan participated in the event entitled "Preventing and Combating Violence against Women and Domestic Violence in Armenia" and dedicated to the homonymous project being implemented by the Council of Europe. The project, which was launched in April 2018, is envisaged for legal and law enforcement specialists involved in preventing and combating violence against women and domestic violence in Armenia.

Minister Zeynalyan expressed his gratitude for the invitation and noted that the tasks set forth under this project, which is being launched with this event, are very important. According to Artak Zeynalyan, as a Deputy of the National Assembly and advocate for human rights protection, he has been closely following the discussions on the relevant law and even though he had voted in favour of the draft law, he noted that the law adopted in that phase has some problems and considered adoption of the law as an intermediate solution. "Consequently, I am certain that all issues to be solved must be identified and solved during application of the adopted law as well," the Minister said and added that he considered proper application of the law and identification of the problems as one of the main objectives of the project that is being launched today. In this context, Minister Zeynalyan expressed his gratitude to the representatives of civil society and international partners who have been working in this field for years with commitment and persistence and who have been introducing the problems in the agenda of the Government.

Summing up, the Minister wished the project effective and success and assured that the Ministry of Justice has undertaken the commitment to continue and deepen the co-operation.
