Taking into consideration public interest in pardon petitions, we would like to inform that the Ministry of Justice has, as and within the time limits prescribed by law, received from the Staff to the President of the Republic of Armenia the decrees on pardon petitions, which will be submitted to the Penitentiary Service of the Ministry of Justice of the Republic of Armenia for the purpose of informing convicts and ensuring execution of those pardon petitions.

On 30 January, Deputy Minister of Justice Suren Krmoyan received Deputy Head of the Extractive Industries Transparency Initiative (EITI) Eddie Rich and Country Manager at the EITI International Secretariat Oliana Valigura. The timetable for introducing the register of real owners, acquisition of financial resources, priority actions, enforcement mechanisms — envisaged by the Fourth Action Plan of the Open Government Partnership initiative of the Government of the Republic of Armenia — and other issues were discussed during the meeting.

The event was jointly held by the Ministry of Justice, the Civil Society Institute and the U.S. Embassy in Armenia. Among those attending the meeting were Head of "Abovyan" Penitentiary Institution Gaiane Vardanyan, Deputy Director of the "Legal Education and Rehabilitation Programmes Implementation Centre" SNCO Gaiane Hovakimyan, Director of the Civil Society Institute Artak Kirakosyan and others.

ECHR grants claim to apply interim measure in case of S. Mayrapetyan

On 17 January 2019, the European Court of Human Rights decided to grant the motion of Samvel Mayrapetyan of 2 January 2019 to apply an interim measure, pursuant to Rule 39 of the Rules of the Court. By this decision, the Court requires that the Government of the Republic of Armenia immediately ensure the provision of medical care adequate to his current health condition and in accordance with doctors' instructions and, in case of need — also ensure the process of transluminal drainage.

In response to the questions and statements that Deputy of the National Assembly of the Republic of Armenia Sofia Hovsepyan gave and made in regard to the adoption of foreign children during the session of the National Assembly of the Republic of Armenia on 17 January 2019, we would like to inform that, upon the decision of the Government of the Republic of Armenia, in 2008, the Ministry of Justice of the Republic of Armenia was recognised as the central body of the Republic of Armenia acting within the scope of the 1993 Hague Convention on Protection of Children and Co-operation in respect of Intercountry Adoption.
