Justice Minister discusses anti-corruption issues with U.S. Ambassador to the Republic of Armenia

Today, Minister of Justice of the Republic of Armenia Arpine Hovhannisyan received U.S. Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to the Republic of Armenia Richard Mills, Senior Anti-Corruption Counsel of the U.S. Department of Justice Peter Ainsworth and others.
The purpose of the meeting was to discuss issues on fighting corruption.
The Minister informed that the Ministry of Justice has already taken several major steps aimed at fighting corruption, but there is still a lot of work to do. Arpine Hovhannisyan attached importance to the support of international partners in fighting corruption.
The U.S. Ambassador extended thanks to the Minister for the reception and expressed the U.S. Government’s satisfaction with working with Minister Arpine Hovhannisyan in fighting corruption. Introducing Senior Anti-Corruption Counsel of the U.S. Department of Justice Peter Ainsworth, who was participating in the meeting, Richard Mills mentioned that he is in Armenia as a result of combined efforts and at the invitation of the U.S. Embassy in order to meet with the Minister and support the anti-corruption efforts of the Government of the Republic of Armenia.
Talking about the effective implementation of the anti-corruption policy, the parties attached importance to the role of civil society and the mass media in speaking out about corruption phenomena and in providing impartial information.
Senior Anti-Corruption Counsel of the U.S. Department of Justice Peter Ainsworth expressed willingness to work closely with the Ministry of Justice and share his knowledge and experience with his Armenian colleagues.
