Workshop on "Personal Data Protection and Freedom of Information" dedicated to the International Day of Personal Data Protection

On 29 January 2016, the Personal Data Protection Agency of the Ministry of Justice of the Republic of Armenia and the Council of Europe organised a Workshop on "Personal Data Protection and Freedom of Information" dedicated to the International Day of Personal Data Protection. Minister of Justice of the Republic of Armenia Arpine Hovhannisyan, Head of the Council of Europe Office in Yerevan Natalia Vutova, as well as representatives of various state agencies and civil society took part in the Workshop.
Arpine Hovhannisyan congratulated the participants on the occasion of the 10th anniversary of the International Day of Personal Data Protection and noted that the Law of the Republic of Armenia "On personal data protection" prescribed such regulations that will enable the State to carry out activities in the field of personal data protection in a more effective way.
Head of the Council of Europe Office in Yerevan Natalia Vutova noted in her welcoming speech that the Convention of the Council of Europe for the Protection of Individuals, which was ratified by Armenia in 2012, is still the only binding international instrument in this field. It is open to all countries and has the potential to become a global standard.
