Minister of Justice receives the delegation of “Save the Children” organisation

Minister of Justice of the Republic of Armenia Arpine Hovhannisyan today received the delegation headed by Regional Director of “Save the Children” organisation for the Middle East and Eurasia Tom Krift.

Deputy Minister of Justice of the Republic of Armenia Vigen Kocharyan, Save the Children International Armenia Country Director Arsen Stepanyan, Regional Director for Eurasia Irina Saghoyan and others were also attending the meeting.

Arpine Hovhannisyan highly appreciated the co-operation of Save the Children with the Ministry of Justice and attached importance to the joint activities for development of the draft Law of the Republic of Armenia "On making amendments and supplements to the Family Code of the Republic of Armenia".

Out of the amendments to be made to the Code, the Minister emphasised the necessity of introducing the institute of guardianship and stressed that special focus is on the introduction of mechanisms aimed at protecting the best interest of the right of the child in the legislative initiatives of the Ministry.

 Regional Director of the of Save the Children organisation for the Middle East and Eurasia Tom Krift expressed gratitude to the Minister for the reception and attached importance to the activities of the Juvenile Justice Council operating through co-ordination with the Ministry of Justice of the Republic of Armenia, as well as to the activities for the best interest of protection of the right of the child.

At the end of the meeting, the parties also discussed the opportunities for the implementation of several programmes in the near future.
