An event entitled "Protection of the Rights Through the Eyes of Children" was held today by the "Rehabilitation Centre for Offenders" SNCO of the Ministry of Justice of the Republic of Armenia, jointly with the UNICEF. The event was held within the scope of the "Effective Co-ordination, Co-operation and Public Awareness for Improving Access to Justice for Children" Programme.

Among the participants of the meeting were Deputy Minister of Justice of the Republic of Armenia Suren Krmoyan, Director of the "Rehabilitation Centre for Offenders" SNCO Gayane Hovakimyan, Child Protection Officer at UNICEF Armenia Hayk Khemchyan, Deputy Director of UNICEF Armenia Liv Elin Indreiten, the members of the Council of Juvenile Justice, etc.

The main goal of the programme is to ensure participation of children in the sphere of protection of children's rights and provide them with the opportunity to present their problems concerning protection of their rights to the members of the Council of Juvenile Justice.

Greeting the attendees, Suren Krmoyan attached importance to this initiative for children's rights protection, the active involvement of children in such activities and mentioned that the event is special as the children themselves will be speaking about their rights and problems. According to Suren Krmoyan, the amendments being made to the Family Code show that the State is also concerned about children's problems and is introducing appropriate mechanisms for the protection of children's rights.

The event was followed by a question-and-answer session between the representatives of various government agencies and a presentation of the individual works of the children.

Let us mention that, within the scope of preparations for the event, meetings were organised with the children during which the children had identified the needs for the protection of children's rights.
