Report of Armenia presented in Geneva

On March 29-30, the delegation led by Deputy Minister of Justice of the Republic of Armenia Vigen Kocharyan participated in the 17th session of the United Nations Committee on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities in Geneva, presented the first Periodic Report of the Republic of Armenia on implementation of the provisions of the International Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities.
During the discussion, the Deputy Minister presented the consistent activities of the Government of the Republic of Armenia for implementation of the provisions of the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities in Armenia, sector-related legislative amendments and initiatives. Issues related to social integration programmes for persons with disabilities, inclusive education, raising public awareness, as well as the role of non-governmental organisations were discussed as well.
The Delegation of the Republic of Armenia, which also included employees from the Ministry of Labour and Social Affairs of the Republic of Armenia, the Ministry of Healthcare of the Republic of Armenia, as well as of the Permanent Representative of the Republic of Armenia to the United Nations Office in Geneva, answered many questions of the Rapporteur on Armenia and other members of the Committee. Representatives of Armenian non-governmental organisations involved in the sphere of protection of rights of persons with disabilities were present at the discussion of the report of the Republic of Armenia.
