Justice Minister receives United Nations Special Rapporteur

Today, Minister of Justice of the Republic of Armenia, Davit Harutyunyan, received Special Rapporteur on the right of everyone to the enjoyment of the highest attainable standard of physical and mental health, Dainius Pūras.
During the meeting the parties discussed a number of issues concerning institutional reforms in the healthcare system of the penitentiary institutions, touched upon the rights to the healthcare enshrined in the newly amended Constitution and the mechanisms of their implementation.
Minister Davit Harutyunyan noted that one of the key directions of the policy of the Ministry of Justice of the Republic of Armenia is the implementation of reforms in the field of prison healthcare and the healthcare of persons held in penitentiary institutions. Further, during his talk with the United Nations Special Rapporteur, the Minister also presented the reforms provided for by the Concept Paper "On modernising the health care services in penitentiary institutions of the Republic of Armenia" approved by the Government on 19 January 2017 and the legislative initiatives implemented by the Ministry.
It should be noted that within the visit to Armenia Dainius Pūras will also visit penitentiary institutions.
