2017-2021 Institutional Development Strategy of the authorised body for protection of personal data

On 1 December, Deputy Minister of Justice of the Republic of Armenia Suren Krmoyan received Deputy Head of the Council of Europe Office in Yerevan Loreta Vioiu and Council of Europe expert Elise Latifa. During the meeting, the parties discussed the recommendations of the authorised body for the protection of personal data of the Republic of Armenia with regard to the development of the 2017-2021 Institutional Development Strategy.

Greeting the attendees, Suren Krmoyan attached importance to discussions held in such a format and emphasised that the protection of personal data is in the centre of attention of the Government of the Republic of Armenia. According to Suren Krmoyan, by adopting a new law, the Government has demonstrated political will to regulate this sector.

In her turn, Deputy Head of the Council of Europe Office in Yerevan Loreta Vioiu attached importance to the meeting, noting that the Council of Europe will render its support to the development of the protection of personal data in Armenia.

Afterwards, Head of the Division for Implementation of Administrative Proceedings of the Personal Data Protection Agency of the Ministry of Justice of the Republic of Armenia Gevorg Hayrapetyan introduced the Law of the Republic of Armenia "On protection of personal data", the current situation in the sector, the powers of the Personal Data Protection Agency of the Ministry of Justice of the Republic of Armenia and the 2017-2018 Action Plan of the Agency.

Council of Europe expert Elise Latifa introduced the recommendations of the authorised body for the protection of personal data of the Republic of Armenia with regard to the development of the 2017-2021 Institutional Development Strategy and noted that their goal is to support the development of legislation in the sector of protection of personal data.

At the end of the meeting, the parties discussed issues of mutual interest.
