Today, Minister of Justice of the Republic of Armenia Artak Zeynalyan received the delegation led by Representative of the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) in Armenia Tanja Radocaj.
The Minister highly appreciated the current co-operation between the Ministry of Justice and UNICEF Armenia and noted that the new Government was ready to bring all programmes for children’s protection to life.
Representative of the United Nations Children’s Fund in Armenia Tanja Radocaj expressed her gratitude to the Minister for the reception and confirmed the willingness to continue and develop the co-operation. The Representative of the UNICEF considered the creation of the Council for Juvenile Justice as the best example which, according to her, operates effectively, and expressed hope that this experience of co-operation would apply to other joint initiatives as well. Tanja Radocaj attached importance to the "Protection of children's rights during criminal proceedings" distance learning programme carried out for judges and prosecutors and Armenia’s membership to Global Partnership to End Violence Against Children as a benchmark country. She also emphasised that Armenia was one of the exceptional countries with a low number of juvenile convicts in the places of imprisonment.
At the end of the meeting, the parties discussed the possibilities of deepening co-operation in the field of family legislation, prevention of violence against children and a number of other fields.
