Issues regarding the fight against violence against children discussed

Today, Deputy Minister of Justice of the Republic of Armenia Suren Krmoyan received Head of Country Engagement of Global Partnership to End Violence against Children Sabine Rakotomalala. Deputy Director of the “Legal Education and Rehabilitation Programmes Implementation Centre” SNCO of the Ministry of Justice of the Republic of Armenia Gayane Hovakimyan also participated in the meeting. Deputy Minister of Justice of the Republic of Armenia Suren Krmoyan highly appreciated this project being implemented by the UNICEF and devoted to the fight against violence against children and the protection of their rights. The Deputy Minister also made a proposal for active co-operation in the given sector and emphasised that international organisations, civil society representatives and stakeholders played their role and significance in the numerous legislative initiatives being implemented by the Ministry of Justice. Suren Krmoyan noted that the Ministry of Justice is developing a legislative package for the solution to issues, but in order to bring it to life, there is also a need for concrete tools and mechanisms. The Deputy Minister also touched upon the provisions offering solutions by the Law “On prevention of violence in the family, protection of persons having been subjected to violence in the family and restoration of solidarity in family”, the issues of physical and psychological violence against children, juvenile justice and a number of activities being implemented for minors having committed offences.

Sabine Rakotomalala attached importance to the participation of the Republic of Armenia in the actions being implemented by the UNICEF for preventing violence against children, as well as indicated the directions through which, in particular, the UNICEF is planning to work with the Ministry of Justice.

During the meeting, an agreement was reached on exchange of experience, and protection of the rights of children on an on-line platform was touched upon.
