Ministry of Justice discusses perspectives of co-operation with USAID

Today, First Deputy Minister of Justice of the Republic of Armenia Artur Hovhannisyan received the delegation led by Deputy Assistant Administrator of the Bureau for Europe and Eurasia of the US Agency for International Development (USAID) Alexandr Sokolowski.
During the meeting, the parties touched upon the long-term and strong partnership between the Ministry of Justice and the USAID. In this context, Artur Hovhannisyan highly appreciated the support of the Agency to the reforms being implemented in a number of sectors in Armenia and viewed the jointly implemented projects as successful.
During the meeting, the priorities of the Ministry and the possibilities for the support of the USAID to the implementation of those priorities were discussed. In particular, the counterparts touched upon a number of issues related to the fight against corruption, improvement of the judiciary, reforms in the activities of the Agency for State Register of Legal Entities, as well as the introduction of electronic justice.
Talking about the activities of the "Centre for Legislation Development and Legal Research" Foundation, which is financed by the USAID and operates within the Ministry of Justice, the First Deputy Minister noted that the activities of the Foundation are among the best examples of co-operation and that the Foundation has not only developed the most important legislative drafts, but has also been a platform for holding various public discussions on those legislative drafts following the amendments made to the Constitution in 2015.
Sokolowski noted that the USAID is stays true to its commitment to support the Government of Armenia in achieving short-term and long-term results for the purpose of mitigating corruption risks, strengthening transparency and accountability, as well as improving the business climate.
At the end of the meeting, the parties discussed the opportunities for the implementation of new joint projects.
