Council for Juvenile Justice holds annual concluding session

Today, the Council for Juvenile Justice, which carries out its activities through the co-operation of the Ministry of Justice and the United Nations Children’s Fund, held a concluding session for the year 2019. The session was chaired by Adviser to the Deputy Prime Minister of the Republic of Armenia Suren Krmoyan and Head of the Department for Drafting Anti-Corruption and Penitentiary Policies of the Staff of the Ministry of Justice Arpine Sargsyan.
Greeting the attendees, Suren Krmoyan stated that the inter-agency efforts that have been made for sustainability of the activities of the Council throughout the years are justified and the results are visible, as the issue on protection of the best interest of a child is currently recorded during discussions in any format and underlies the decisions that are made within the state apparatus as well.
Head of the Department for Drafting Anti-Corruption and Penitentiary Policies of the Ministry of Justice Arpine Sargsyan expressed gratitude to the attendees for their participation and summed up the results of the activities that the Council carried out in 2019. In particular, as a result, Arpine Sargsyan noted the Action Plan for Combating Violence against Children and stated that some actions of the Plan have already been incorporated in the National Strategy on Human Rights Protection approved during the session of the Government.
Afterwards, according to the agenda for the session of the Council, a discussion on recommendations on the provisions related to the rights of the child in the drafts of the new Criminal and Criminal Procedure Codes of the Republic of Armenia was held and the UNICEF Guidelines on Child-Friendly Legal Aid were presented.
The session was summed up through planning of activities for 2020.
