A number of issues related to the strengthening of the system for providing services to children effected by COVID 19 pandemic discussed

Today, Deputy Minister of Justice Srbuhi Galyan participated remotely in the launch of the Project “Enhancing emergency response to child protection and ensuring services to children affected by pandemic, COVID 19”. The Project is implemented with the support of the Embassy of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland in Armenia and is targeted at system strengthening, capacity building and emergency response to children having appeared in difficult life situations.

Deputy Minister Galyan welcomed the representatives participating in the two-day training courses of the launch of the Project and noted that the Ministry of Justice attaches a great importance to the rendering of comprehensive support to children having appeared in difficult life situations and especially those subjected to violence. In this context, Srbuhi Galyan attached a great importance to the Project being implemented with the Embassy of the United Kingdom and expressed gratitude to the new Chargé d'Affaires of the United Kingdom, Ambassador Helen Fazey.

The Deputy Minister expressed hope that the Project will allow to indentify the issues existing in the sphere and find acceptable solutions thereto. In this regard, Srbuhi Galyan emphasised the need to make the existing systems dealing with child issues in Armenia more cooperative and child-centred and noted that those issues are reflected in the recent legislative reforms initiated by the Ministry.

British Chargé d'Affaires in Armenia Helen Fazey and Head of the Department for Protection of Juveniles’ Rights and Combating Domestic Violence under the General Department of Criminal Investigation of the Police of the Republic of Armenia Nelly Duryan delivered an opening speech.

Within the framework of the training course, Deputy Director of the “Legal Education and Rehabilitation Programmes Implementation Centre” SNCO coordinating the implementation of rehabilitation programmes, Project Officer Gayane Hovakimyan presented the general provisions of the Project, and Head of the Department of Criminal Legislation, Penitentiary and Probation Policy Development of the Ministry of Justice, Project Expert-Trainer Arpine Sargsyan touched upon the general strategy for the protection of children's rights in the field of criminal justice and the legal drafts reflecting them.

The training will continue on August 28 as well.
