Deputy Ministers of Justice receives EU delegation

Today, Deputy Ministers of Justice Kristinne Grigoryan and Yeranuhi Tumanyants received the delegation led by Head of the Unit for Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus and Eastern Partnership of the Directorate-General for Neighbourhood and Enlargement Negotiations of the European Commission David Cullen.

The aim of the visit is to discuss the preparations for the Eastern Partnership Summit to be held in December, in particular direction for predetermining the sectors of economic investments and co-operation.

Greeting the members of the delegation, Kristinne Grigoryan highly appreciated the level of bilateral co-operation within the framework of the EU- Armenia Comprehensive and Enhanced Partnership Agreement, as well as within the framework of the EU budget support contract, and emphasised that there is
co-operation for reforms in not only the judicial and legal field, but also police reforms.

The First Deputy Minister also mentioned the Programme of the Government approved by the National Assembly, emphasising that the reforms arising from the EU- Armenia Comprehensive and Enhanced Partnership Agreement are best reflected in the five-year Programme of the Government.

David Cullen expressed gratitude for the cordial reception and, sharing the information that he obtained during his visit to Armenia, stated that he is impressed with the level of involvement of Armenia in the judicial and legal reforms.

At the request of the colleagues, by presenting the priorities for co-operation, Deputy Minister Grigoryan highlighted the challenges facing the country in consequence of the war and the pandemic, as well as touched upon the process of formation of the Anti-Corruption Court and predetermined the possible paths for co-operation in this regard.

The Deputy Minister also touched upon the activities of the Department for Confiscation of Property of Illicit Origin already operating as part of the Prosecutor General’s Office, the steps that are being taken in the process of introducing the
e-justice system, as well as the protection of human rights and other issues on the agenda of the anti-corruption and judicial and legal reforms.

At the end of the meeting, the parties expressed high willingness to continue the close co-operation.
