There is a need to co-operate more closely in cases of common regional threats — Karen Andreasyan receives Prosecutor General of Iran

On 12 October, Minister of Justice Karen Andreasyan received Prosecutor General of the Islamic Republic of Iran Mohammad Jafar Montazeri, who is on a three-day visit to Armenia.
The Minister attached importance to the impact of the centuries-old Armenian-Iranian cultural ties on the current relations based on mutual trust and respect and presented the priorities of the Ministry of Justice targeted at the reform of the penitentiary system, the anti-corruption policy, police reforms, reforms within the judiciary and the Compulsory Enforcement Service, stressing the need for exchange of the best practice with the Iranian colleagues.
Prosecutor General of Iran Mohammad Jafar Montazeri expressed gratitude for the cordial reception and, touching upon the friendly relations between the two peoples, mentioned that Iran and Armenia should co-operate more closely in the conditions of the new realities in the region.
Sharing the opinion of his Iranian counterpart, Minister Andreasyan reaffirmed the need for closer co-operation in the conditions of the common regional threats in such a period of severe trials, and expressed willingness to put in all his efforts for this.
During the meeting, the parties discussed a number of issues related to co-operation in the legal field, as well as touched upon the opportunities for expansion and deepening of the co-operation.
At the end of the meeting, the Prosecutor General of Iran invited the Minister of Justice of Armenia to Iran. Karen Andreasyan accepted the invitation and asked the Prosecutor General to transmit his invitation to the Minister of Justice of Iran to visit Armenia.
