Delegation led by Minister of Justice takes part in Armenian-Georgian legal forum in Tbilisi

On 2 May, the Armenian-Georgian legal forum was held in Tbilisi with the participation of the delegation led by Minister of Justice Karen Andreasyan. The delegation includes Deputy Minister of Justice Arpi Sargsyan, Director of the “Legislation Development and Legal Research Centre” Tigran Dadunts, Director of the Probation Service Gevorg Simonyan, Chairperson of the Notary Chamber Lilit Muradyan and Deputy Chief Compulsory Enforcement Officer of the Republic of Armenia Artur Vardanyan.

The organising of the forum was supported by the Asian Development Bank. Minister of Justice Karen Andreasyan and Minister of Justice of Georgia Rati Bregadze delivered their opening speeches. During the forum, the Ministers of the two countries spoke about the importance of co-operation in the legal sector. Minister of Justice Karen Andreasyan expressed gratitude to Rati Bregadze for the invitation and emphasised that the Armenian-Georgian forum is an important step for deepening the partnership between the two countries. “It is very important for us to exchange experience between the two friendly countries, starting from the brilliant idea of probation, which contributes to the development of the probation system, as well as a very important practice that I would like to talk about, that is to say, the Justice Homes,” Minister Andreasyan noted in his speech.

Minister Karen Andreasyan also attached importance to the idea of establishing arbitration centres, which is currently in the initial stage of creation in Armenia, and it has already been implemented in Georgia. During the forum, the Ministers of Justice of the two countries discussed current issues as well, such as access to notarial services, provision of electronic public services, reform of penitentiary and probation systems, programmes for re-socialisation of convicts, formal and non-formal legal education. Minister of Justice of Georgia Rati Bregadze emphasised that the partnering ties between Georgia and Armenia will be moved to a new stage, and the co-operation between the Ministers of Justice of the two countries will be further strengthened. The Armenian-Georgian legal forum will end today. During the visit, the Minister of Justice of Armenia will visit the National Archives, the Justice Home, the Penitentiary Service, and will get acquainted with the Georgian model of their activities.
