Ministry of Justice presents July progress report on narcotic drugs and other prohibited items detected at penitentiary institutions of Armenia

The officers of the Operational Division, Security and Safety Divisions of the Penitentiary Service of the Ministry of Justice continue their unwavering fight against circulation of prohibited items, narcotic drugs, as well as for exclusion of cases of card games at penitentiary institutions. Accordingly, throughout July, 97 mobile phones, 79 cutting and piercing objects, 193.4 litres of homemade alcoholic drinks, 138 cases of card games and a number of other cases were detected at penitentiary institutions.
Staying true to the transparent and accountable administration policy adopted by the Government, the Ministry of Justice is presenting a progress report on narcotic drugs and other prohibited items detected at the penitentiary institutions of Armenia during of July.
The officers of "Armavir" Penitentiary Institution inspected the television set brought in the name of detained person G. G., and from within the television set they detected 1 mobile phone with its subscription card. In another case, the deliverable brought in the name of a convict was inspected at "Armavir" Penitentiary Institution. The inspection detected two packages from within the shoes existing in the deliverable, including packages with a white, crystalline mass weighing 1,25 grams and a brown, viscous mass weighing 7,03 grams.
The inspection of a deliverable brought by a citizen in the name of a detained person of "Artik" Penitentiary Institution, detected lacteous, crystalline and powder-like masses wrapped in foil in the middle of two loaves of bread. The inspection also Penitentiary established that there were yellowish, adhesive and suspicious masses in the inner sections of the labels of juices in plastic containers with a capacity of 1.5 litres. During a regular tour, the officers of the Security Division of the same penitentiary institution — "Artik" Institution, noticed a suspicious polyethylene bottle on the barbed wires of the barrier wall of one of the areas. Officers of the Protection Division caught — from the external area of the penitentiary institution — a former convict of "Artik" Penitentiary Institution, who had thrown the bottle in. The inspection detected 5 mobile phones, chargers and an earphone in the polyethylene bottle.
Officers of the Security Division of "Nubarashen" Penitentiary Institution conducted a personal search of the female citizen who was on a long visit with the detained person. As a result, 7 pills similar to the Lyrica type and Ecstasy type of narcotic drugs hidden in the clothing were detected with the female citizen.
Criminal proceedings have been initiated under all the aforementioned cases, and forensic-chemical expert examinations have been assigned.
