Ministry of Justice presents the progress report for August on narcotic drugs and other prohibited items detected at penitentiary institutions of Armenia

The officers of the operational, security and protection divisions of the Penitentiary Service of the Ministry of Justice continue the unwavering fight to reveal cases of circulation of prohibited items, narcotics, as well as cases of card games in penitentiary institutions. Staying true to the policy of transparent and accountable governance adopted by the Government, the Ministry of Justice presents the progress report on narcotic drugs and other prohibited items detected at penitentiary institutions of Armenia during August.

The officers of the operational and security assurance divisions of “Armavir”, “Nubarashen” and “Vanadzor” Penitentiary Institutions subjected citizens having come to visit convicts for a short period to personal inspection. As a result, suspicious packages that contained mobile phones and various masses similar to narcotics were detected with the persons who had come for a visit.

In another case, the officers of the operational division of “Armavir” Penitentiary Institution, using the information received from the Operational Division of the Central Body of the Penitentiary Service, subjected to search the convict who was engaged in the technical-economic activities at the Institution. As a result, a package that contained masses similar to heroine, methamphetamine and marijuana types of narcotic drugs, as well as a mobile phone, a subscription card, a Wi-Fi device, headphones and 5 charging wires for a mobile phone, were detected in the bucket that the convict had.

Earlier, the officers of the Operational Division of the same Institution had subjected one of the convicts to inspection and had found in the palm of the latter a suspicious package in which there was a white, crystal-like mass similar to the methamphetamine type of narcotic drug.

Criminal proceedings have been initiated, and forensic-chemical expert examinations have been assigned under all the cases listed above. The detailed report is submitted in the figure attached.
