Deputy Minister of Justice Armenuhi Harutyunyan co-chairs 12th meeting of Armenia-EU Subcommittee on Justice, Freedom and Security

Deputy Minister of Justice Armenuhi Harutyunyan co-chaired the 12th meeting of the EU-Armenia Subcommittee on Justice, Freedom and Security in Brussels. At the opening of the meeting, the Deputy Minister presented the consequences of the attack that Azerbaijan made against the sovereign territory of the Republic of Armenia on 13-14 September 2022, the targeting of the civilian population, the cases of particularly cruel treatment and torture of Armenian military servicemen and the extrajudicial executions of Armenian prisoners of war.

Armenuhi Harutyunyan stated that the Armenian side highly appreciates the meetings of the EU-Armenia Subcommittee on Justice, Freedom and Security held alternately in Yerevan and Brussels every year. The mentioned Subcommittee serves as the best platform for presenting to the European Union the course of many reforms that are being carried out in the Republic of Armenia, namely judicial and legal, anti-corruption reforms, as well as the steps that the authorities of the Republic of Armenia have taken and are taking for combating trafficking, money laundering and cybercrimes, for law enforcement authorities and for preventing crimes and in other directions.

The Deputy Minister emphasised that the meetings of the Subcommittee help to further strengthen and deepen the close co-operation between the Republic of Armenia and the European Union. In her speech, Harutyunyan touched upon the course of judicial and legal reforms being carried out by the Ministry of Justice, the transparency of mechanisms for subjecting judges to disciplinary liability, the implementation of the GRECO recommendations, the process of establishing the Ministry of Internal Affairs, the operation of the Patrol Service, the anti-corruption reforms, electronic justice, the priorities of the legislative sphere, the courses being held at the Academy of Justice of the Republic of Armenia under the new legislation.

The EU partners welcomed the reforms in the justice sector and expressed willingness to support continuation of those reforms.

Yesterday Harutyunyan also participated in the meeting of the EU-Armenia Human Rights Dialogue.
