Minister of Justice Grigor Minasyan received the delegation led by Deputy Secretary General of the Council of Europe Bjorn Berge.
The Minister thanked Bjorn Berge for the support provided by the Council of Europe. Grigor Minasyan stressed the large-scale reforms implemented, particularly, the establishment of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, the progress made in judicial and legal sectors, as well as in the fight against corruption and criminal justice.
The Minister attached importance to the activities carried out for the establishment of arbitration centre, as well as those in respect of development of the probation institute implemented with the CoE support, particularly, improvement of legislation, application of new alternative measures of restraint and types of punishment, piloting of various instruments, carrying out trainings, development of re-socialisation programmes and assessment.
Grigor Minasyan also attached importance to the activities for reforming the mediation sector within the framework of bilateral co-operation.
The Minister underlined the importance of the expert opinion provided by the Venice Commission on the draft legislative amendments envisaging an appeal mechanism for SJC decisions in the Constitutional Law “Judicial Code of the Republic of Armenia”.
Deputy Secretary General of the European Council Bjorn Berge congratulated Grigor Minasyan on being appointed to the position of the Minister of Justice and thanked for the reception. Bjorn Berge stressed the significance of bilateral co-operation and stated that it strengthens over the years. He welcomed the agenda of reforms in the justice sector and highlighted that the predetermined directions comply with the CoE policy.
Bjorn Berge expressed confidence that the activities already carried out would contribute to the development of the justice sector.
The parties reached an agreement to continue the effective collaboration.
