A public event was held with the participation of representatives of the Ministry of Justice, other agencies of the executive branch of government, the Supreme Judicial Council, the Chamber of Notaries, banks and other interested bodies, the purpose of which was to discuss draft the law "On Amendments and Supplements to the Code of Civil Procedure of the Republic of Armenia" and a number of other laws.
The drafts were developed by the "Center for Legislation Development" Foundation of the Ministry of Justice. The drafts suggest that the court of general jurisdiction should issue a payment order and transfer certain cases under simplified procedure to the jurisdiction of notaries.
It is proposed to reserve the jurisdiction of notaries only for those cases in which the request for confiscation of the amount presented does not exceed five million drams. Moreover, only banks, credit organizations, as well as persons carrying out regulated activities in the energy, water and telecommunications sectors can submit an application to the notary with the specified requirement.
The aim of the project is to increase the efficiency of the out-of-court settlement of civil cases with small claims, which in turn will contribute to reducing the workload of the courts and ensure the timely and quick resolution of the said cases.
The discussion was organized at the initiative of the Supreme Judicial Council and with the support of the Council of Europe's "Support to the implementation of the judicial reform in Armenia" program.
