The staffs of MoJ’s Penitentiary and Probation Services will pass trainings: a memorandum has been signed

In his speech at the workshop on the concept of training of penitentiary officers, Deputy Minister of Justice Levon Balyan stated that he always emphasizes fundamental reforms in the field aimed at the creation of more effective procedures and services for the protection of human rights.

Levon Balyan emphasized that the penitentiary and probation sectors are the important areas where the protection of human rights is paramount along with building and other material conditions, the implementation of effective systems of preparation, training, motivation, and encouragement of penitentiary officers is a cornerstone.

According to Levon Balyan, MoJ’s "Centre for the implementation of legal education and rehabilitation programmes" SNCO has big tasks ahead of it, and the Raoul Wallenberg Institute's support in this important mission will make it possible to introduce advanced international standards, exchange experience, and move forward with the chosen roadmap thanks to which an institutional system of education in the field will be created.

Referring to the interested parties, the deputy minister noted that both the Penitentiary Service and the Probation Service are interested in this important acquisition, which will get new learning opportunities, as well as public organizations supporting human rights protection issues.

As a result, the program will contribute to the strengthening of the human rights protection system.

Summarizing the speech, Levon Balyan reaffirmed the readiness of the Ministry of Justice to support the process.
