Council of Europe to continue supporting compulsory enforcement system reforms

Deputy Minister of Justice Levon Balyan participated in the session of the Co-ordinating Council held as part of the Programme "Support to the Effective Implementation of Judgments of the European Court of Human Rights in Armenia" and expressed gratitude for the co-operation and the support provided.

Deputy Head of the Council of Europe Office in Yerevan Maxime Longangué and Deputy Director of the Co-operation Programmes Unit Lilit Daneghyan delivered welcoming remarks at the meeting. The results of the Programme for the months of April-November 2023 were presented during the session. Levon Balyan discussed with the key partners of the Programme the upcoming programmes envisaged under the working plan. The Programme is a part of the ongoing efforts of the Council of Europe to support effective implementation of the European criteria for human rights in Armenia, with special focus on the right to freedom of assembly, effective judicial oversight in the pre-trial stage, effective investigation of the alleged cases of ill-treatment and depriving of life, the problems with failure to implement or delay of implementation of the judgments of domestic courts and other directions.

The Programme is being carried out as part of the 2023-2026 Action Plan being implemented by the Council of Europe for Armenia and is financed by the Human Rights Trust Fund.
