There needs to be an unwavering fight against criminal sub-culture; Grigor Minasyan introduces newly appointed Head of Penitentiary Service

Minister of Justice Grigor Minasyan has introduced newly appointed Head of the Penitentiary Service Ambakum Grigoryan to the personnel of the Service.

The Minister expressed gratitude to former Head of the Penitentiary Service of the Ministry of Justice of the Republic of Armenia Sergey Atomyan for the work done and for his contributions to the Service.

Grigor Minasyan particularly emphasised that Ambakum Grigoryan has high professionalism, thanks to which the Service will be able to implement the already launched and upcoming programmes. The Minister mentioned that it is necessary to work day and night to achieve the bar set by Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan.

Former Head of the Penitentiary Service Sergey Atomyan expressed gratitude for the co-operation and emphasised that directing a Service is rather complicated, taking into consideration its peculiarities. He mentioned that Ambakum Grigoryan is a person with high volitional attributes and will be able to direct the Service.

Grigor Minasyan also mentioned that it is necessary to implement a number of reforms in order to record desired outcomes. The unwavering fight against criminal sub-culture and the upcoming activities to be carried out in this direction were touched upon.

The specifics of the process of certification of officers of the Penitentiary Service, which is being launched in 2024, were discussed. The Minister mentioned once again that the Service must be replenished with quality specialists, thanks to whom it will be possible to fight against both criminal sub-culture and prohibited items penetrating into penitentiary institutions.

Ambakum Grigoryan expressed gratitude for appointing him to a responsible position and assured that, through combined efforts, they will be able to achieve successes and carry out all the programmes that are relevant to the system.

Afterwards, the Minister and the administration of the Penitentiary Service discussed the current issues of the Service and the paths for the solutions to those issues.

Grigor Minasyan stated that the upcoming changes will help improve the quality of the Service.

The Minister of Justice congratulated the newly appointed Head once again and wished effective and prolific work for the benefit of the Republic of Armenia.
