House arrest applied against juvenile, exercise of right to education; Concluding session of "Council for Juvenile Justice" held under chairmanship of Levon Balyan

The concluding session of the "Council for Juvenile Justice" was held under the chairmanship of Deputy Minister of Justice of the Republic of Armenia Levon Balyan. Levon Balyan greeted the members and presented the new procedures for organising the activities of the Council and for the Council to consider proposals and express positions. The issues on the practice of applying the house arrest measure of restraint applied against juveniles and on ensuring continuity of the education and employment of persons under the age of 19 who have been released from penitentiary institutions were discussed. In particular, the issues related to applicability of house arrest applied against juveniles, the problems that emerge when restrictions are set, the technical features and the hindrances to implementation of control in practice with regard to the ensuring of the right of juveniles to education were touched upon. The members of the Council presented the problems recorded in practice and shared their observations.
At the end of the meeting of the Council, it was decided to organise the next meeting in the first quarter of the year 2024, and it was agreed to submit new proposals until then.
