President of Portugal receives EPLO member high-ranking officials and the Minster of Justice in his residence; sector-specific challenges concerning the rule of law and human rights protection discussed

President of Portugal Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa received members of the Global Rule of Law Commission of the European Public Law Organisation. The sector-specific challenges regarding the rule of law and human rights protection in EU member states and Western partnership countries, along with the joint efforts aimed at solving them, were discussed with the President. During the tour that the President organised in the capital, including at the Presidential Palace and the adjacent historical chapel of Nossa Senhora da Vitoria, Minister Minasyan and President Sousa discussed the sector-specific challenges regarding the rule of law and human rights protection in Armenia. The parties also considered cooperation with the Portuguese Agency for Investment and Foreign Trade, as well as collaboration between the two countries in the fields of education and culture, touching upon historical ties and the role of the great philanthropist Calouste Gulbenkian in these areas.

Joining the President at the reception were the members of the Commission, including Professor Giuliano Amato; former Prime Minister of Italy and President of the Commission, Mr Miguel de Serpa Soares; Deputy Secretary-General of the United Nations for Legal Affairs, Professor Spiridon Flogaitis, other members from the European Public Law Organisation and several other high-ranking officials.
