Issues related to strengthening of rights of displaced persons discussed with CoE partners

Deputy Minister of Justice Karen Karapetyan received the delegation of experts from the Council of Europe (CoE) for human rights protection led by Deputy Head of Cooperation Programmes Division of the Directorate General Human Rights and Rule of Law at the Council of Europe Lilit Daneghyan. The CoE expert delegation is in Armenia within the framework of the Project "Strengthening Human Rights Safeguards for the Displaced Population in Armenia" initiated by the Secretariat of the Council of Europe. During the meeting, Deputy Minister Karen Karapetyan greeted the delegation members, attaching importance to co-operation with the Council of Europe and, at the same time, appreciating the Council’s efforts to support individuals forcibly displaced from Nagorno-Karabakh. Issues related to strengthening human rights safeguards for displaced persons in Armenia were discussed with the CoE partners. In this context, the discussions also covered the legislative and legal processes that are relevant to migration, education and awareness-raising. The experts from the CoE in the field of human rights protection presented the framework for implementation of the Project and predetermined the areas of co-operation with the Ministry of Justice, which include further development of the legal framework for protection of the rights of displaced persons, strengthening awareness with regard to these rights, and training specialists within the displaced persons' community. During the meeting, several other issues of mutual interest were also touched upon.
