Ara Mkrtchyan presents to Christoph Safferling the progress of fulfilment of obligations assumed by the Republic of Armenia under the Rome Statute

Deputy Minister of Justice Ara Mkrtchyan received the delegation led by Director of the International Nuremberg Principles Academy, Professor Dr. Christoph Safferling. On 1 February, the Republic of Armenia became a full-fledged member of the International Criminal Court. The Ministry of Justice, being the policy-making body in the sector, together with all interested government agencies, initiated the process of establishing relevant regulations in the domestic legislation to ensure fulfilment of the obligations assumed by the Republic of Armenia under the Charter. Ara Mkrtchyan presented to Christoph Safferling the steps towards proper fulfilment of the obligations assumed under the ICC and the vision for future programmes, attaching importance to the establishment of partnering relations with the Nuremberg Academy in the context of development of international relations. During the meeting, the parties exchanged views on providing consultations, exchange of best practices and other necessary assistance to the Republic of Armenia on its way of accession to the International Criminal Court. Earlier, the Academy of Justice launched a series of three-day courses entitled "Development of International Criminal Law in the Republic of Armenia", designed for investigators, prosecutors and other legal specialists.
