President of the International Criminal Court and Minister of Justice of Armenia discuss opportunities for expansion of co-operation 02/07/2024

Minister of Justice Grigor Minasyan met with President of the International Criminal Court Tomako Akane in the Kingdom of the Netherlands (The Hague). Grigor Minasyan reminded that on 3 October 2023, Armenia ratified the Rome Statute of the International Criminal Court which entered into force on 1 February 2024. By ratifying the Statute, Armenia reaffirmed its commitment to combating impunity for the gravest crimes that pose a threat to global peace and security. Thus, the Republic of Armenia retroactively recognised the jurisdiction of the ICC, expressing commitment to bringing the national legislation in line with the principles of the Rome Statute. Grigor Minasyan reaffirmed Armenia's commitment to ensuring continuity of approximation of the national legal framework for implementation of the Rome Statute and, at the same time, expressed willingness to develop the capacities of the relevant law-enforcement authorities in the context of effective implementation of the process following ratification of the Rome Statute. In closing, Grigor Minasyan expressed gratitude to the International Criminal Court for the opportunity to strengthen the co-operation. President of the International Criminal Court Tomako Akane congratulated Armenia on becoming a member of the ICC and expressed willingness to support Armenia in the process following ratification of the Rome Statute and in other directions for co-operation.
