Regional discussion on judicial and legal reforms implementation progress in Armenia

Deputy Director of the "Centre for Legislation Development and Legal Research" Foundation of the Ministry of Justice Davit Gharibyan and Senior Legal Expert Maria Petrosyan, together with representatives of non-governmental organisations and other stakeholders, participated in a working discussion on the progress of implementation of judicial and legal reforms in Armenia held in Lori Marz. The aim of the discussion was to present the work done within the scope of the 2022-2026 Strategy for Judicial and Legal Reforms and to inform about the progress and results of the work. A number of strategic areas, including constitutional reforms, judicial system reforms, amendments to the electoral legislation and the development of alternative methods for settlement of disputes were discussed during the event. After presenting the progress of judicial and legal reforms, Lawyer of the Arbitration and Mediation Center of Armenia Norayr Baghdasaryan introduced the Centre, as well as the steps taken and being undertaken for the establishment and operation of the Center. The attendees welcomed the holding of regional meetings in this format and the involvement of representatives of marzes in these discussions, as well as attached importance to the dialogue with civil society representatives. The series of meetings are being held within the scope of the European Union-funded "Public Awareness on Justice Sector Reforms" project, and it is planned to organise similar events in the future also in Syunik Marz to ensure awareness-raising about the judicial and legal reforms. The working discussion was organised based on the Communication Action Plan on the 2022-2026. Strategy for Judicial and Legal Reforms of the Republic of Armenia and the Action Plan deriving from the Strategy.
