National Library and House-Museum of Paruyr Sevak donate 120 books to "Sevan" Penitentiary Institution

A visit to “Sevan” Penitentiary Institution of the Ministry of Justice of the Republic of Armenia was organised under the direction of First Deputy Head of the Penitentiary Service of the Ministry of Justice, Colonel of Justice Sahak Grigoryan and with the accompaniment of representatives of the subdivisions of the Service The main purpose of the visit was to attend an event to be organised at the Institution within the scope of co-operation between the "Legal Initiatives Centre" non-governmental organisation and the National Library of Armenia, and among the guests were Advisor to the Director of the National Library Nerses Hayrapetyan and Head of the Book Exchange Department Maya Hayrapetyan. After touring the library of the Institution, the guests donated 70 books to the Institution's library on behalf of the National Library, and another 50 books were donated by the Chairperson of the "Legal Initiatives Centre" non-governmental organisation Nare Hovhannisyan on behalf of Sevak Ghazaryan, the Director of the House-Museum of Paruyr Sevak. A meeting was also organised with convicts who are members of the self-made cultural association operating at the Institution and who were introduced to the website of the National Library, resources, databases and, in general, the role and significance of the National Library in the lives of Armenian readers. During the dialogue with the persons deprived of liberty, the guests expressed willingness to see the library of the Institution replenished with the works of contemporary authors as well. Representatives of the National Library expressed hope that the co-operation would help create an opportunity to donate new, multi-genre books written by Armenian and foreign authors.
