Execution of ECtHR judgments and the measures being taken discussed with Council of Europe delegation

Deputy Minister of Justice Karen Karapetyan participated in an inter-agency discussion with the delegation of the Department for the Execution of Judgments of the European Court of Human Rights (ECtHR) led by Director of the Council of Europe Directorate for Human Rights Clare Ovey which took place at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. During the meeting, the course of execution of the ECtHR judgments by Armenia and the measures being taken in this direction were discussed. During the meeting, the Armenia-Council of Europe co-operation and the special role of the ECtHR as an important component of the co-operation in the ongoing process of strengthening human rights, democracy and the rule of law in Armenia were highly appreciated. The importance of executing the ECtHR judgments was emphasised both in terms of protecting individual rights and in terms of systemic reforms and skills development being carried out at the state level, which the competent institutions of the Republic of Armenia, with the assistance of experts of the Council of Europe, are implementing within the scope of the Council of Europe Action Plan for Armenia. The parties recorded the high indicators of execution of the ECtHR judgments by Armenia, reaffirming their mutual commitment to continue the close co-operation established with the aim of increasing the effectiveness of execution of the ECtHR judgments.
