Analysis on personal data protection in Armenia to be conducted

Deputy Minister of Justice Karen Karapetyan received representatives of the Delegation of the European Union to Armenia to discuss the fundamental issues related to personal data protection.
Among the participants of the meeting were Head of the Personal Data Protection Agency of the Republic of Armenia Grigor Nersisyan, Head of Cooperation Section at the Delegation of the European Union to Armenia Frank Hess, International Assistance and Cooperation Officer Irina Movsesyan and EU expert Philippos Mitletton, who is currently in Yerevan to conduct analysis on personal data protection in Armenia. Within the scope of this programme being implemented with the support of the European Union, an EU expert was seconded to Armenia to study the current state of personal data protection in the country, the national legal and institutional framework, as a result of which the expert will prepare a report, making relevant comments and suggestions for assisting in the development of the field.
Karen Karapetyan highly appreciated the efforts of the European Union for development of the right to personal data protection in Armenia, expressing hope that implementation of the programme will foster improvement of the relevant legal framework and the development of the Personal Data Protection Agency, which is the authorised body for personal data protection.
In the coming days, the EU expert will work with the specialists of the Agency and meet with representatives of a number of state institutions.
