Publication of opinions on integrity, reasoning of decisions on appointment to positions; working discussion was held

A working discussion "On the issues of reasoning the decisions on appointments to positions and the publicity of the opinions of the Corruption Prevention Commission" was held with the participation of stakeholder government agencies at the Ministry of Justice. Representatives of the Supreme Judicial Council, the Corruption Prevention Commission, the Prosecutor General's Office, the Investigative Committee, the Anti-Corruption Committee, the Office of the Prime Minister, as well as experts of the “Support for Justice Reform in Armenia — Phase II" additional assistance project and the USAID/Armenia Justice Sector Support Project participated in the discussion. In his opening remarks, Deputy Minister of Justice Karen Karapetyan highlighted the importance of the commitment arising from the 2023-2026 Anti-Corruption Strategy in terms of increasing public accountability with regard to appointment to positions in the judicial-legal system and assessing the opportunity for publicity of integrity ensured by the Corruption Prevention Commission (CPC). In particular, the Strategy is expected to enhance accountability of the body making an appointment based on the CPC opinion on integrity, and assess the need for publicity and reasoning of the final part of the CPC opinion on integrity. Afterwards, Director of the "Centre for Legislation Development and Legal Research" Foundation Tigran Dadunts presented the study on and standards of international practice in regard to the issues of reasoning of decisions and publicity of the opinions on integrity in terms of appointment to positions. There was an exchange of views on the shared ideas to generate legal solutions for ensuring further fulfilment of the commitment.
