The National Assembly has adopted — fully and in the second reading — the draft Law "On making amendments and supplements to the Law "On the Public Council"", according to which activities for setting up a body responsible for performing fact-finding functions in the Republic of Armenia have been launched, i.e. a Fact-Finding Commission to carry out fact-finding activities. Deputy Minister of Justice Tigran Dadunts noted that the main activities of this Commission will be aimed at carrying out fact-finding activities to detect violations in fundamental and periodic human rights in the Republic of Armenia in the period between 21 September 1991 and 2023 inclusive in certain areas and preparing a fact-finding report on those violations. In the course of its activities, the Fact-Finding Commission will perform a number of functions, such as gathering information, studying materials, conducting interviews and public hearings, visiting state and local self-government bodies, etc. According to the Deputy Minister, the Fact-Finding Commission will consist of 7 members, who shall be selected by the Public Council through the open competitive procedure. At the same time, it was emphasised that a new Public Council shall be set up and the powers of the current Public Council shall be terminated within three months upon entry into force of the Law. According to the Deputy Minister, this step is an important beginning for the re-launch of the Public Council and serves as a base for the establishment of a Fact-Finding Commission by the newly established Public Council.
