Minister of Justice of the Republic of Armenia Srbuhi Galyan received the delegation led by Head of the Council of Europe Office in Yerevan Mr Maxime Longangué. The Minister highly appreciated the ongoing co-operation with the Council of Europe within the scope of the support provided to the reforms agenda being implemented in Armenia. She expressed satisfaction with the support provided to the Ministry of Justice in the field of human rights, the judicial-legal sector, the anti-corruption field and the penitentiary sector in the context of implementation of the Council of Europe Action Plan for Armenia 2023-2026. Talks were held on the sustainable co-operation established with the Venice Commission and the Council of Europe Directorate General of Human Rights and Rule of Law, considering the opinions submitted in 2024 within the scope of legislative initiatives developed in a number of sectors.
Co-operation with the Council of Europe in the direction of effective implementation of the judgments of the European Court of Human Rights was emphasised during the meeting. The interlocutors also touched upon the progress of implementation of the 2023-2025 Action Plan arising from the National Strategy on Human Rights Protection. They considered the possibility of the CoE’s assistance in digitisation of the justice sector and in other potential areas. Presenting the upcoming priorities included in the agenda, the Minister informed that the draft Law "On ensuring legal equality and protection from discrimination" will be submitted to the Government for consideration soon. The organising of activities for constitutional reforms was also touched upon during the meeting.
