Srbuhi Galyan presents penitentiary and probation reforms to students

At the initiative of the Student Council of Yerevan State University (YSU), Minister of Justice Srbuhi Galyan met with the first-year and second-year students of the YSU Faculty of Law. The Minister greeted the students and presented the penitentiary reforms that the Ministry of Justice is carrying out, the activities of the Penitentiary Service, the current re-socialisation programmes for persons deprived of liberty, the activities that are being carried out in the penitentiary sector and the success stories of persons who are beneficiaries of the Probation Service. Srbuhi Galyan stated that within the scope of the constitutional and judicial reforms in the Republic of Armenia, special importance is attached to the establishment and revaluation of the rights and lawful interests of persons involved in the justice sector and particularly in criminal justice sector and the guarantee systems ensuring their full exercise. The Minister emphasised that, in the context of the new Penitentiary Code, it is especially important to protect the rights and lawful interests of persons deprived of liberty and guarantee their full exercise, taking into account the requirements of international law and the practices of advanced countries. During the meeting, the Minister answered questions from the students.
