Representatives of Ministry of Justice visit Germany for constitutional reforms

The delegation of the Republic of Armenia, under the co-ordination of the Ministry of Justice, paid a study visit to the Federal Republic of Germany to participate in the event entitled "Sustainable Constitutional Reform". Participation in this event provided an opportunity to exchange experience in strengthening the mechanisms of the democratic and legal state, as well as the rule of law in the context of constitutional reforms in the Republic of Armenia. During the visit, a number of meetings and discussions were held with the competent state bodies of the Federal Republic of Germany, including the Constitutional Court, the German Bundestag, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Ministry of Justice, representatives of various sector-specific organisations and institutions, as well as sector-specific experts and academic representatives. The principle of separation of powers, the scope of powers of the Constitutional Court, the procedure for selecting judges, issues related to application of the Constitution and international treaties, provisions not subject to amendment provided for by the Constitution, the scope of human rights, as well as a number of issues related to constitutional reforms, including the Armenia-EU co-operation, were discussed during the meetings. As a result of the meeting, bilateral agreements were reached, and possible directions for co-operation were predetermined. The study visit was conducted with the support of the Embassy of the Federal Republic of Germany in the Republic of Armenia.
Among other members of the delegation were a Deputy of the National Assembly, representatives of the Supreme Judicial Council, the Office of the Human Rights Defender, as well as non-governmental organisations included in the Council for Constitutional Reforms.
