Anna Karapetyan presents to EU counterpart the steps taken to combat discrimination and ensure legal equality in Armenia

Deputy Minister of Justice Anna Karapetyan received Director for Strategic Communication of the EU External Action Service Aude Maio-Coliche. The Deputy Minister presented the steps taken to combat discrimination and ensure legal equality in Armenia, including the works carried out within the scope of the National Strategy for the Protection of Human Rights under the co-ordination of the Ministry of Justice (including the conducted training courses and awareness-raising campaigns and their impact). Anna Karapetyan highlighted the importance of both legislative regulations in the area of ensuring legal equality and preventing discrimination, and undertaking taking steps and making actual changes in the practice. She also provided details about the reforms that are being carried out, as well as the upcoming programmes. In this context, she touched upon the comprehensive strategic document on combating discrimination that the Ministry of Justice is currently drafting, indicating that it will be presented for public deliberation in the near future. Aude Maio-Coliche stated that alongside her official duties, she has also assumed the role of an ambassador for legal equality, and, therefore, in this context, she attached importance to the effective and targeted discussion with the Deputy Minister, highly appreciating the large-scale activities that have been carried out. At the end of the meeting, the parties reaffirmed their willingness to co-operate in order to eliminate all forms of discrimination.
