Minister of Justice: Armenia continues activities aimed at reforms of the judicial system of the Republic of Armenia

The Republic of Armenia continues activities aimed at reforms of the judicial system of the Republic of Armenia in line with up-to-date European standards. Today, Minister of Justice of the Republic of Armenia Arpine Hovhannisyan said about this during the high-level Conference entitled "Strengthening Judicial Independence and Impartiality as a Pre-condition for the Rule of Law in Council of Europe Member States" launched in Sofia. In this context, the Minister has attached importance to the Executive Order of the President of the Republic of Armenia "On Approving the 2012-2016 Strategic Programme for Legal and Judicial Reforms and the List of Actions Deriving from the Programme”. According to her, this Strategic Programme includes criminal, civil and administrative justice, as well as the institutional development of the judicial system. Arpine Hovhannisyan found the new Constitution adopted аs a result of the 2015 referendum noteworthy as well, which ensures continuous strengthening of the principle of the rule of law, fundamental human rights and freedoms, the development of constitutional procedures guaranteeing the independence of the judiciary. In this regard, the Minister has attached importance to the participation of the CoE in the elaboration of the draft Judicial Code in line with the new Constitution.

Let us remind that the aim of the high-level Conference is to provide an opportunity to stimulate the dialogue between the Council of Europe and its member states on problems of independence and impartiality of the judiciary.

Approximately two hundred delegates from various countries of the world, i.e. ministers of justice, high-ranking members of the judiciary, as well as the representatives of the CoE institutions and other international organisations.
