Minister Zeynalyan attaches importance to the role and significance of the Group of observers conducting public monitoring over penitentiary institutions

Today, Minister of Justice of the Republic of Armenia Artak Zeynalyan received representatives of the Group of observers conducting public monitoring over penitentiary institutions and bodies of the Ministry of Justice of the Republic of Armenia.

Deputy Minister of Justice Suren Krmoyan, Head of the Penitentiary Service of the Ministry of Justice of the Republic of Armenia Artyom Mkhoyan, Chairperson of the Group Hasmik Harutyunyan, as well as other representatives of the Ministry and the Group of observers participated in the meeting as well.

Minister Zeynalyan attached importance to the role and significance of the Group of observers conducting public monitoring over penitentiary institutions and bodies of the Ministry of Justice of the Republic of Armenia and emphasised that the representatives of the Group, through their activities, are considered “the second eye” of the Ministry of Justice and help the Ministry obtain an objective assessment of the situation existing at penitentiary institutions.

During the meeting, a number of issues of bilateral interest were discussed with the representatives of the Group of observers; in particular, the problems having emerged during the activities implemented by the Group at penitentiary institutions and the paths for solutions to those problems were touched upon.

At the end of the meeting, an agreement was reached to organise regular discussions and deepen the co-operation.
