Today, Deputy Minister of Justice Suren Krmoyan received Deputy Head of the Office of the Public Defender of Atlanta Luana Walsh. The meeting was held within the scope of the Professional Fellows Program under implementation through funding provided by the U.S. Department of State and the American Councils.

Greeting the guest at the Ministry of Justice, Deputy Minister Krmoyan presented the activities being carried out by the Ministry for the introduction of restorative justice and, in this context, expressed his gratitude for the willingness to exchange experience.

During the meeting, Luana Walsh presented the system of restorative justice being applied in Atlanta, the processes being carried out for the purpose of reducing recidivism and resocialising offenders which, according to their application, are divided into programmes being implemented in different stages: before arrest, before bringing charges, after bringing charges and after imprisonment.

Suren Krmoyan noted that the presented practice would also underlie the process of developing new legislation and emphasised that the effective introduction of the system of restorative justice required joint activities with the involvement of interested bodies.

At the end of the meeting, the parties expressed willingness for co-operation in the future as well.
