Vigen Kocharyan participates in the Plenary Session of the European Commission for the Efficiency of Justice of the Council of Europe

From 3 to 4 December, Deputy Minister of Justice of the Republic of Armenia Vigen Kocharyan participated in the 31st Plenary Session of the European Commission for the Efficiency of Justice (CEPEJ) of the Council of Europe.

Within the scope of the Session of the European Commission for the Efficiency of Justice, Deputy Minister of Justice of the Republic of Armenia Vigen Kocharyan delivered a speech in which V. Kocharyan noted that in the spring of this year citizens of Armenia came out to the streets and squares to realise their desire of creating the country of their dreams, a country where rule of law, human rights and democracy are not just words, but a reality. Vigen Kocharyan emphasised that the new government in Armenia was formed in accordance with the Constitution and in compliance with rule of law and the principles of democratic governance.

The Deputy Minister of Justice noted that ensuring of real justice, independence of courts, strengthening of accountability and transparency, as well as restoration of public confidence in the judiciary are among the primary issues on the agenda of the new government of Armenia.

Deputy Minister of Justice of the Republic of Armenia V. Kocharyan also touched upon the regulations of the new Judicial Code having entered into force in April of this year, the 2019-2024 Strategy for Judicial and Legal Reforms and the Action plan deriving from the Strategy being under development, as well as the agreements reached with the Council of Europe in the justice sector and further steps, attaching importance to the support of the Council of Europe in the process of reforms.
