Legal regulations envisaged for revealing real owners considered

31/01/2019

On 30 January, Deputy Minister of Justice Suren Krmoyan received Deputy Head of the Extractive Industries Transparency Initiative (EITI) Eddie Rich and Country Manager at the EITI International Secretariat Oliana Valigura. The timetable for introducing the register of real owners, acquisition of financial resources, priority actions, enforcement mechanisms — envisaged by the Fourth Action Plan of the Open Government Partnership initiative of the Government of the Republic of Armenia — and other issues were discussed during the meeting.

Introducing to his colleagues the possible options for the mechanisms to be applied for the purpose of revealing real owners, Deputy Minister Krmoyan emphasised that the Ministry of Justice had preferred to publish reliable data and that, through the introduction of the envisaged mechanism, the data of owners available in the State Register of Legal Entities would not only be published, but the reliability of the data presented for registration of a legal entity would also be verified before registration and then be published.

The representation of the EITI International Secretariat expressed willingness for technical and legal support to the current activities that are being carried out for revealing real owners within the scope of the Open Government Partnership initiative.
