Deputy Ministers of Justice receive representatives of Italy’s judiciary

On 15 April, Deputy Ministers of Justice of the Republic of Armenia Anna Vardapetyan and Tigran Khachikyan received the delegation composed of judges of the Italian Republic and officials of the Ministry of Justice of the Italian Republic being on a two-day visit to Armenia. The delegation was headed by Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Italian Republic to the Republic of Armenia Vincenzo del Monaco.

The delegation arrived in Armenia within the framework of co-operation in rule of law stipulated by the EU-Armenia Comprehensive and Enhanced Partnership Agreement with the purpose of establishing and enhancing relations with the Supreme Judicial Council and the Ministry of Justice of the Republic of Armenia.

Welcoming the guests to the Ministry of Justice of the Republic of Armenia, Deputy Minister Anna Vardapetyan highly appreciated the existing co-operation between the Ministries of Justice of Armenia and Italy and emphasised that this meeting serves as a good opportunity to outline the new directions for partnership.

The Ambassador also attached importance to the organising of meetings in such a format and noted that these meetings contribute to the development and deepening of co-operation.

Representative of the delegation Donatella Donati presented the extensive work that Italy has carried out in the anti-corruption field during the last ten years and noted that the fight against corruption is one of the priority directions of the Government of Italy. Donatella Donati attached importance to the transparency of the work of state bodies, monitoring of activities and efficient spending of public resources, inclusiveness of civil society in the process of public administration, etc. as a formula for the fight against corruption.

Speaking about the anti-corruption policy of Armenia, Deputy Minister Tigran Khachikyan emphasised that the Government has declared it as a priority direction that will also be reflected in the five-year Action Plan of the Government which is in the process of development.

During the meeting, the parties touched upon issues related to the functions of anti-corruption bodies functioning in Italy, their tool kits, the institution of
whistle-blowing, as well as anti-corruption education and deepening of co-operation.
