Karen Andreasyan discusses issue of need for constitutional reforms with civil society representatives

Minister of Justice Karen Andreasyan discussed the issue of constitutional reforms with the heads and representatives of Helsinki Citizens’ Assembly Vanadzor Office, Open Society Foundations— Armenia, Union of Informed Citizens, Transparency International Anti-Corruption Center, “Europe Union of Law”, “Protection of Rights without Borders”, the Law Development and Protection Foundation and Peace Dialogue non-governmental organisations.

Minister Andreasyan attached importance to the need to hold inclusive discussions on reforms in the fundamental law of the country and, to hear initial opinions, he presented three issues related to the transformation and reinterpretation of the composition and activities of the Commission on Constitutional Reforms, selection of the form of governance, as well as the merger of court instances, including the appropriateness of the establishment of the Supreme Court through the merger of higher courts, or the merger of Appeal and Cassation courts.

At the end of the discussion, an agreement was reached to continue meetings in such format.
