Today, First Deputy Minister of Justice Kristinne Grigoryan delivered a speech at the Conference entitled "Independence, Democracy, Security".
During the panel discussion on the democratic and legal reforms being implemented in Armenia, Deputy Minister Grigoryan presented the steps that are being undertaken by the Government for protection of human rights and development of democratic institutions.
Kristinne Grigoryan stated that international observer organisations qualified the parliamentary elections held after the revolution in 2018 as unprecedentedly transparent, free and fair in the history of our country.
Afterwards, the Deputy Minister presented the amendments that have been made in recent years to the electoral systems and legislation, as well as the amendments to the legislation on political parties that have significantly liberalised the political field.
In the context of transformation into a democratic state governed by the rule of law, Kristinne Grigoryan also touched upon the political agendas for reforms in the Constitution, as well as reforms in the judicial-legal, anti-corruption and law-enforcement systems.
Summing up, the Deputy Minister stated that even though the changes are not satisfactory, in the course of three years, they are significant from the perspective of democracy and protection of human rights, also taking into account the disasters that have befallen our country over the past two years.
